Best Time and Places to Catch Yellowfin Tuna

Costa Rica’s Pacific waters offer Yellowfin Tuna fishing year-round, with peak season from May to October. In the Northern Pacific, near Tamarindo and Guanacaste, large schools appear between August and October. The Central Pacific provides steady action all year, with the best fishing from June to September. In the Southern Pacific, anglers often find Yellowfin Tuna alongside Marlin and Sailfish. These fish usually swim at 330 feet deep but sometimes dive as far as 1,500 feet in search of food.
